Mentally ill man found not criminally responsible after attacking complete stranger with hammer

A man with severe mental illness who was driven by voices in his head to attack a complete stranger with a hammer on an Ottawa street corner has been found not criminally responsible for his actions. Weber had previously been found not criminally responsible in 2007, 2008 and 2011, most recently for abducting and assaulting a woman in Kamloops, B.C. The judge found Weber not criminally responsible of aggravated assault and possession of a weapon. Weber will remain at the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre until their is a disposition by the Ontario Review Board. He felt the Royal Ottawa Hospital and community housing provider Salus should have paid better attention to the warning signs.
