The government’s green paper on mental health services for adolescents and young people is notable, not for its contents, but for its omissions. The government has put in place measures to expand mental health support in schools through additional funding. But all these measures, regardless of their efficacy, ignore the underlying causes of mental ill-health. The green paper reinforces our mental health services as a crisis service, designed to deal with conditions once they have developed. In a debate last week I raised such cases with the minister.
