NewsThe public is invited to attend a “Celebration of Life” for former California Congressman Vic Fazio, who died of cancer on March 16 at the age of 79. Fazio, a Democrat, represented the Sacramento area for 10 terms in the U.S. House of Representatives, beginning in 1978. Among the projects for which he provided funding in the area were mass transit, military construction and the Vic Fazio Yolo Wildlife Area, which was dedicated by President Clinton in 1997. Fazio became a party leader known for taking on “thankless tasks,” as the Washington Post once put it. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD), delivered the lead eulogy for Fazio at a memorial service held at the Library of Congress in Washington DC, on April 28.
