Football is not a “ballgame.”Baseball is a “ballgame.” It’s the only sport you can reasonably refer to as a ballgame. Everything else is, as Dictionary.com says, a “game played with a ball.”This is indeed a definition that appears to encompass football. Secondly, the expansive definition — a game played with a ball — then you’d have to say that bocce and bowling are ballgames. I imagine that even those who refer to football as a ballgame would agree that bocce isn’t a ballgame. Baseball = ballgame.
