Mekeni Food back in the market – The Manila Times

AFTER more than a month of absence in the market, major Philippine meat processor Mekeni Food Corp. has brought back to the shelves its pork-based products after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued an endorsement to redistribute. On October 26, Mekeni Food voluntarily recalled all its pork-based products after the Department of Agriculture’s Bureau of Animal Industry confirmed that its samples of Red Classic Hotdog and Skinless Longaniza tested positive for the African swine fever (ASF) virus. The FDA clearance and SGS results give assurance that all Mekeni pork-based products to be released in the market, as well as its facilities, equipment and raw meat materials, are 100- percent negative for ASF virus DNA. He said the pull out of all its pork-based products was aimed at helping the Philippine hog industry and mitigate the possibility of their products inadvertently become carriers of ASF. We are happy that these tests have yielded negative results and we can again share our products to our customers,” he said.
