The freshly-elected Mayor of Galway City Peter Keane has set his priorities for the year ahead as he explained the traffic issue will be the city’s main challenge. Galway City West Councillor and Fianna Fáil politician Peter Keane was elected to the role at the first meeting of the new City Council on Friday, June 21, while Labour Councillor Níall McNelis was elected Deputy Mayor. Mayor Keane told the Irish Independent he will use his experience to lead the Council to the best of his ability. It is singularly the biggest challenge in Galway City, not just now but over the last five or ten years. Councillor McNelis and myself were first elected to Galway City Council in 2009, on the same day.
