That’s what Oriental Outlook magazine and the Blue Book of Cities in China, compiled by China Association of Mayors, found in a survey released in Chinese media Friday. But inhabitants of the 7.9 million-population urban area see more. Chengdu is a “relaxing city, one of the most tolerant cities in China,” a native in her 30s told me Friday. “In China, urban happiness closely correlates with being able to enjoy the country’s cultural traditions,” Freeman says.
