By Anneke SmithThis year's annual Waimarama Beach Day was once again graced by two unsuspecting winners of the Mr and Ms Waimarama competition, who caught the eye of the public for all the right reasons. When asked why Ms Wright encouraged her friend to enter the competition Ms Wright said "You're only 16 years old once!" A few years older than this year's Ms Waimarama, 19-year-old Taradale resident Ashlee Osgood took out the title of Mr Waimarama. Mr Osgood's friends, Conna Butler and Shamus Christison, also entered the competition and, despite losing, claimed Mr Osgood owed his victory to them. A mother of five, Ms Gold said she's two months into taekwondo training and would encourage older women to get involved in competitions like Ms Waimarama.
