Meena educates children on protection against viral diseases

At school, Meena receives a book from her teacher on how viral diseases are spread and how people can protect themselves, such as by using soaps to wash hands and using handkerchiefs, from such infections. Meena then teams up with her friends and villagers and together they raise awareness and fight the virus from invading their village. Since 1993, the Meena character has been entertaining and educating children and parents, and raising awareness on the rights of the girl child across the society throughout healthy and happy entertainment for children. Since then, Meena has been used as a tool to impart important messages on gender equality, child rights, education, protection, and development. Unicef developed the Meena Communication Initiative (MCI) as a mass communication project aimed at changing perceptions and behaviour that hamper the survival, protection, and development of girls in South Asia.
