Footage purporting to show medics in hazmat suits scanning Chinese air passengers for symptoms of a mysterious 'SARS-like' virus has sparked fears that the deadly infection could spread globally. Authorities today said the virus had spread across China, with five cases in Beijing, 14 in Shenzhen and one in Shanghai. There were 48 confirmed cases on Friday, but hundreds of infections were reported over the weekend because screening is now possible. SARS, or severe acute respiratory syndrome is caused by the SARS coronavirus, known as SARS Co, and first emerged in China in 2002. Nationalist tabloid Global Times called for better handling of the new virus than that of the 2003 SARS outbreak.
