AARP is spearheading the lobbyist movement in Washington as it looks out for the interests of current Medicare beneficiaries. However, even with lobbyists protecting Medicare beneficiaries, new cuts are being proposed to take place over the next 10 years. This means that if these cuts are approved, current Medicare beneficiaries won’t feel the full backlash. The idea was that then baby boomers’ children would grow up to pay the Medicare benefits for their own parents, and that cycle would continue for future generations. People in those groups would be permitted to stay with their current plan or elect to enroll in a government-issued health plan.
