Officials, who had accompanied Narong, said the accident happened after he and his entourage paid a visit to the much-revered pagoda at about 9am. The entourage decided to climb up the ladder inside the pagoda to pay respects to the sacred relic inside. The officials said when Narong reached the third floor where the relic was kept, he fell to the second floor. He was taken to Phrathat Phanom District Hospital and then forwarded to Nakhon Phanom Provincial Hospital. He had been scheduled to chair a medical conference of the Health Zone 8 on Monday and Tuesday.
