House prices continued to slide down from their recent peaks in most parts of the country in March. In Auckland prices declined by 0.7% in March and the rest of the country excluding Auckland prices were down 0.9% overall. The REINZ's median price figures give an indication of how much prices have declined form their previous peaks in dollar terms, although it must be noted the House Price Index and median prices are calculated differently and are not a direct comparison. In dollar terms, the median price declines from their peaks range from -$25,000 in Southland to -$299,400 in Auckland. Median prices in 10 regions - Northland, Auckland, Waikato, Bay of Plenty, Hawke's Bay, Manawatu, Wellington, Nelson, Marlborough and Otago have declined by more than $100,000 compared to their previous peaks.
