It wasn't used when a racist, and false, tirade was broadcast by Magic Talk. The Broadcasting Standards Authority has ordered radio network MediaWorks pay a $3000 fine after finding a conversation between fill-in Magic Talk host John Banks and a caller included “denigrating comments” about Māori culture, breaching broadcasting standards. John Anthony/Stuff MediaWorks chief executive Cam Wallace said John Banks would not appear again during his tenure but that was not enough for the Broadcasting Standards Authority. Cameron Burnell Sean Plunket left Magic Talk after the station was fined over his “offensive interview”. Banks’ on-air comments came a month after the BSA ordered MediaWorks pay a $3000 fine for an “offensive interview” conducted by Sean Plunket on his own show, Magic Talk Afternoons.
