Nelson rowers were undaunted by the big numbers competing at this year’s New Zealand Secondary Schools Rowing Championships, performing admirably in their season pinnacle event. Lake Karapiro hosted 2458 rowers from 122 schools as the biggest Maadi Cup in history took place near Cambridge. Amongst them were 35 Nelson rowers representing Nelson College, Nelson College for Girls and Waimea College, who returned with one gold, two silvers and a further eight top 10 placings while enduring a “brutal” progression through the heats, repecharge and semi-finals.
