Bangladesh Meat Traders Association Secretary General Rabiul Alam had threatened the strike at the Dhaka Reporters Unity in Shegun Bagicha on Sunday. If these problems are not solved within the next 15 days, the traders will call a strike from the first of Ramadan, he had said. The meat traders association had previously called a strike on Feb 13, which was lifted on Feb 18 after they reached a compromise with the Ministry of Commerce and the City Corporation. The price of meat could be controlled if the practice of bribery was put to an end , he said. The problem could be reduced by as much as 50 percent if the City Corporation took the necessary steps and the Dhaka South City Corporation set up a permanent market for livestock, he added.
