Kiwi pole vault star Eliza McCartney suffered a rare misfire at the Sydney Track Classic athletics meet, though teen sprint sensation Edward Nkitia did not miss his chance to impress. McCartney, the Rio Olympics bronze medallist, failed to record a height in the women's pole vault competition when she missed all three of her attempts at 4.41 metres, allowing fellow national squad member Olivia McTaggart to secure a rare victory over her mentor. McTaggart was one of five New Zealand winners at the classic. Other New Zealand placings came from: Nicole Bradley (2nd women's hammer, 63.07); Lauren Bruce (3rd women's hammer 58.51; 3rd discus 48.55); Nick Southgate (3rd men's pole vault, 5.20m); Michael Cochrane (2nd men's 400 hurdles, 51.79s); Josh Dawkins (3rd men's 110 hurdles, 13.96s).
