Calderdale Council rated the Halifax McDonald's on Old Market zero and said overall that "urgent improvement" was necessary. On food hygiene and safety, the local authority said that "major improvement" was needed. Zero is the lowest score in food hygiene rating system that runs from zero to five stars. When this happens, officers give a hygiene rating of zero, as food businesses must always have hot water.
