Now, those names are associated with plant-based burgers, which are now available at every level of dining, from formal restaurants to fast food places. In any event, the return of the McRib is a distraction from McDonald’s American absence thus far from the plant-based burger market. All manner of plant-based burgers abound in other global markets, from Britain and Scandinavia to Asia. In September 2019, I traveled to St. Thomas, Ontario, to try McDonald’s test of the P.L.T., for plant-based, lettuce and tomato.
