Niman has been dragged into the middle of what was already an acrimonious split between McCain and Melanson. McCain filed for an annulment in March, alleging Melanson “tricked her” into marrying him. In response, McCain said Melanson was trying to “unjustly” enrich himself through their $5 million marriage contract. In his own response to McCain’s motion, Niman argued that there is “no basis” to stop him from representing Melanson. The family lawyer said that McCain did not specify what confidential information he may have gathered about her during her divorce from David or while he was acting in two other McCain family divorces.
