When the last Kisima awards event was held, very few had heard of Gengetone. Fast forward to 2020, and Sheng masters Mbogi Genje on Sunday beat afro-pop band Sauti Sol to win the coveted music Group of The Year award at the 2020 Pan African Kisima Awards. Kisima Music and Film Awards is one of the oldest annual talent awards program in the country, and it made its come-back after a seven-year break. This year’s edition was held on December 13 at the Sarit Centre in Nairobi with Nation Media Group as the official media partner. The event was graced by Devolution Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa who said that Kisima Music and Film Awards was timely especially this time as the world battles Covid-19.
