Ongare was a member of the pioneer Kenyan women’s team which visited Barbados for the AIBA Women’s World Boxing Championship. The team also included Joselyn Mare, who also became the first female boxer to join the national amateur governing body, BFK, as Assistant Competitions Secretary.
