Mayors make a bet as Toronto FC faces Seattle Sounders in MLS finals 2nd year in a row

The stakes are high for Toronto’s final soccer game of the season, when they face the Seattle Sounders for the second year in a row at the MLS finals Saturday. Toronto mayor John Tory and Seattle mayor Jenny Durkan have set a wager that if the Toronto team wins, Durkan will light Seattle’s city hall red and wear a Toronto FC scarf, and send a basket of Seattle-related goodies (including Starbucks coffee, and salmon) to Toronto. Meanwhile, if Seattle wins, Tory will light the Toronto sign green, wear a Seattle Sounders scarf, and send a basket of Canadian goodies, such as Tim Hortons coffee, peameal bacon and maple syrup, to Seattle. No matter who wins though, the mayors said they’ll donate $100 to a charity for each goal scored. The bet was posted on Twitter Friday morning, just a few weeks after a similar agreement was struck between Tory and Calgary Mayor Naheed Nenshi.
