"People are concerned about overcrowding, which they should be," Watson said Tuesday on CBC's Ottawa Morning. Walking and cycling is how we move in our neighbourhoods but this leads to conflicts with 🚗 and being unable to #physicaldistance. Watson and city staff have said they are not in favour of these sorts of residential street closures. Bylaw officers responded to more than 500 calls and issued 43 tickets to people flouting physical distancing rules on the weekend. Some of the Ottawa residents who were fined appear to have flouted the law in obvious ways, such as operating a barber shop or serving drinks at a pub.
