THE Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS) on Thursday said water rates would be adjusted in Metro Manila starting April, with Maynilad Water Services Inc. increasing its rates while Manila Water Co. Inc. implementing a rate cut. The board authorized Maynilad to increase rates by P0.05 per cubic meter (m3), which means an increase of P0.18 for customers consuming 10 m3 or less. Manila Water, meanwhile, will cut rates by P0.21 per m3, or a decrease of P1.11 per 10 m3 or less consumption. Customers consuming 20 m3 per month and 30 m3 per month will go down by P2.46 and P5.02, respectively. The FCDA is a tariff mechanism to recover or compensate for fluctuations in foreign exchange rates.
