This is the first time the two stalwarts are seen together after the two parties forged a poll pact to defeat the Bharatiya Janata Party ( BJP ) in 1993. The slogan that celebrated the tie-up was " Mile Mulayam, Kanshi Ram, Hawa mein ud gaye Jai Shri Ram". But the tie-up could not sustain beyond two years.The two parties parted ways within two years, with Mayawati accusing SP of usurping its vote base. Mulayam had congratulated Mayawati on phone the day the results were declared to express his gratitude for BSP’s support. Almost a week later, Mulayam expressed his displeasure over the seat sharing formula that SP had entered into with BSP.
