British prime minister Theresa May has written to European Council president Donald Tusk on Friday asking to delay Brexit until June 30th. “The United Kingdom proposes that this period should end on 30 June 2019,” Mrs May said in the letter. Mrs May said that if an agreement was reached before this date, then Britain proposed that the extension should be ended early. May said earlier this week she would seek a delay that is “as short as possible” to the current Brexit date of April 12th. Meanwhile, Mrs May is to write to Mr Tusk on Friday with the UK’s request for a further delay to Brexit, a Downing Street source said.
