OTTAWA–Maxime Bernier’s People’s Party is sticking by a spokesman accused of defending “Nazi sympathizers” and promoting conspiracy theories in old blog posts. B’Nai Brith Canada accused Martin Masse, Bernier’s longtime aided the spokesman of the People’s Party of Canada, of writing or publishing multiple articles online that “may forment anti-Semitism, misogyny, and racism.”People's Party of Canada Leader Maxime Bernier started the People’s Party of Canada after splitting with the Conservatives in August. In posts uncovered by the advocacy group, Masse defended the late Austrian Freedom Party leader Joerg Haider. “There is no room in a federal party for an individual who has defended Nazi sympathizers and referred to many who disagree with his worldview as ‘fascists,’” the advocacy group wrote in a statement to the Star. The People’s Party is perceived as further right than Andrew Scheer’s Conservatives, advocating for reduced immigration, a sharp reduction in foreign aid, and “decentralizing” the federal government.
