Not many successful title defences start with two DNFs in the first three races of a season. Max Verstappen will harbour hopes of bucking that trend, but already has a significant deficit to make up. The Dutchman is already 46 points adrift from early pace-setter Charles Leclerc, who has begun the season in incredible form. But the gap is much larger than it might have been because of the unreliability of his Red Bull. Red Bull's prayers went unanswered, and now the team is in a race against itself as well as its competitors.
