Energy and Public Utilities Minister Patrick Gervais Assirvaden announced the projects, which center on a mix of solar, wind, and storage infrastructure. Battery energy storage systems (BESS) will be deployed to manage peak evening demand and support the integration of renewable energy into the grid. According to the minister, the projects will strengthen grid stability, support the integration of renewable energy, and ensure a more resilient and sustainable energy future for Mauritius. However, its energy system still depends heavily on imported fossil fuels, exposing it to global price volatility and external shocks. In this context, authorities had already announced in June 2025 a separate set of projects aimed at adding 277.5 MW of renewable capacity in the coming years.
