Mattress set on fire in skateparkJohn Hawkins Firefighters battled a mattress blaze in Whanganui. Whanganui firefighters responding to reports of a bonfire in a park instead found a mattress alight in skate bowl. The fire happened in the skate park at Kowhai Park in the river city at 9.20pm on Tuesday. Beets said passers-by spotted the blaze, but thought it was a bonfire. When the fire crew arrived they discovered it was a mattress that had been dumped in the skate park.
