We pick up with him after he’s served several years, and is chosen for a rehabilitation program training wild mustangs — an effort to soften inmates and help them make emotional connections. But brute evolves to best friend when, during a storm, Coleman manages to coral his mustang. The Mustang is a fine entry to the man-and-his-horse genre, and a well-timed meditation on toxic masculinity and the price of vulnerability. But its best success is bringing Schoenaerts to the forefront, a dark horse no more.
