Canada hasn’t had nuclear weapons in decades (yes, we had them, more on that later) and still voted against the treaty. But while the prospect of a massive nuclear war has diminished, and public literacy on nuclear matters with it, the need for nuclear weapons has not. We are also protected by the American nuclear deterrent — if attacked with nuclear weapons, we would expect the Americans to retaliate in kind on our behalf. A personal note This will be my last column at the National Post before I move on to new adventures.
