But my colleague Jon Kay swung his metaphorical light sabre around here recently, addressing the continued questions Conservative leader Andrew Scheer is getting over his views on gay marriage. Jon’s main point seems to be that the Canadian media spent too much time thinking, writing and talking about Scheer’s views on homosexuality. But then he stood up, made a clear and strong statement rejecting white nationalism and racial prejudice, and the talk about his purported racism … essentially dried up. Scheer needed a “I am your father” moment — a clear statement that left no room for doubt or interpretation. Scheer gave a clear and strong answer on white nationalism, and the issue largely went away, at least in terms of media interest.
