A backwards house numbering system in a rural Waikato town may cause headaches for posties and emergency services in the near future. A neighbouring region with a similar numbering system, in 2015 opted to renumber around 630 homes after it caused confusion for posties and emergency services. Former councillor, and volunteer firefighter Brian Hunter, said this could add to the confusion for emergency services who are in a rush to get to houses. Rexine Hawes Brian Hunter, who was previously a volunteer firefighter said the odd numbering system could cause an issue for emergency services. In 2015 Hauraki District Council voted to renumber around 630 properties in Waihi, due to the inconstancy as they were causing confusion for emergency services and post and delivery services.
