A fire broke out in a shop in Sector 22 in Chandigarh, one of the busiest commercial zones in the city, on Wednesday (March 18, 2026), officials said. The fire began on the first floor of a shop and spread to the adjoining shops. An official said more than 15 fire tenders were pressed into service and more may be deployed. The official said the presence of some chemicals in one of the shops increased the intensity of the blaze. The market is a hub of mobile phones and other electronic items and sees a heavy footfall of customers every day.
