FOOTBALL: Massey University tripped at the last hurdle as the students sought to improve their final place in this year’s men’s Federation League. Chasing a third or fourth-place finish, Massey instead remained in fifth spot after they could only draw 1-1 at home against lowly Levin on Saturday. And Massey’s fifth placing last year left them well off the pace of the leading group, whereas this season there were only six points separating second-finishing Marist from Massey in fifth spot. Massey now go on to defend the Federation Cup away to Taranaki side Moturoa next weekend after Moturoa beat New Plymouth Rangers 2-0 in the semifinal.
