A book set in West Papua has a thread that carries its author all the way back to Palmerston North. Bonnie Etherington studied for a masters of creative writing at Massey University in Palmerston North and has just released her first novel, The Earth Cries Out, with publishing company Penguin Random House. Etherington spent her early years in West Papua, Indonesia, and in her novel, she said, she wanted to explore some of the province's wider issues. "We know that everything on the earth cries out with pain the same as a woman giving birth to a child.
