Mass testing kits to be used in schools 'missing' alarming number of Covid-19 cases

Professors from the University of Birmingham re-tested 710 of the 7,189 students who had taken lateral flow tests. The lateral flow tests picked up two positive cases - but when retested the figure grew to eight. It led scientists to estimate as many as 60 cases were missed by the lateral flow tests across all students tested. And it found that even in patients with the highest viral load, three in 10 positives were not identified by the lateral flow tests. “Anyone who tested positive with a lateral flow test during the university testing earlier this month would have been asked to get a confirmatory PCR test.”
