Another mass grave was discovered in the Hamam al-Alil area on November 7 last year Ahmad al-Rubaye/GettyIraqi forces have uncovered a mass grave of about 500 executed prisoners after they forced Isis out of a prison complex near Mosul. The victims were thought to be predominantly Shia civilians killed when Islamic State militants seized Badush in 2014. The prison has since been used to hold hundreds of kidnapped Yazidi women who may also be among the dead. The prison was recaptured by forces from the Hashed al-Shaabi — an umbrella group dominated by Iran-backed Shia militias — who discovered the bodies. The Iraqi military said the Hashed forces found “a large mass grave containing the remains of around 500 civilian prisoners in (Badush) prison who were executed by (Islamic State) gangs after they controlled the prison during their occupation of Mosul”.
