Morocco is tackling a wave of blazes in its northern forests amid a national heatwave that further complicates the job of firefighters. In Larach region in particular wildfires neared inhabited areas and the highway had to be cut as firefighters struggled to extinguish the fire. Morocco has also mobilized its armed forces to contain the fire which was fueled with dry hot wind coming from the east. The wildfire has destroyed farms and cattle as well as hives in the agricultural regions of Ouazzane, Taza and Larache. Last month, Morocco increased its fire-fighting capabilities with the reception of 3 new Canadair water bombers bringing total fire extinguishing aircrafts to 8.
