FEISTY, funny and, at times formidable, Iris Walton had a personality much greater than her tiny frame. A legend in Maryport, Iris worked on the local edition of the Times and Star and both saw and campaigned for many of the changes that have made the town what it is today. Iris, who died peacefully last week, at the age of 85,started life as a nurse. Long after her retirement, Iris was a regular visitor to Her Citi, the Maryport café that was also the Times & Star office. A service for Iris will be held at St Michael’s and All Saints Church in Lamplugh at 11am, Thursday, June 30.
