Maryport bakery Born and Bread named by Times as one of UK's best

In the Times article, Born and Bread on Senhouse Street in the town was named as one of the 16 micro bakeries around Britain to try, amid a rise in popularity of 'small batch' baking and micro bakeries. In her assessment of Born and Bread, writer Sophie Wilkinson said: "This bakery, founded in 2023, is headed up by Stuart Eve, a former Royal Marine and National Trust worker who has worked hard to conserve all that’s good and great about Cumbria. "He now makes a straightforward range of sourdough breads, garlic and rosemary focaccia, soda bread, white teacakes, white sandwich loaves and baguettes. "All perfect fuel for stomping along the nearby coastline or taking a trip to the nearby Lakes. Stuart opened the artisan bakery back in August 2024, selling sourdough loaves, teacakes and baguettes, along with cinnamon rolls and Cumberland sausage rolls with meat sourced from Peter Walsh’s butchers in Maryport.
