Sales of utility vehicles doubled to 16,313 units as compared to 8,114 units last year, on the back of the compact SUV Brezza. The brisk volume growth was led by robust sales across all the segments, including entry-level models such as Wagon R and Alto. Driven by bestseller Baleno, sales of compact car models increased by a fourth to 55,817 units, while sales of utility vehicles doubled to 16,313 units as compared to 8,114 units last year, on the back of the compact SUV Brezza. Maruti’s volumes have advanced at a brisk pace even as auto firms are reeling under the impact of demonetisation. Auto sales tanked the most in 16 years in January as the sudden scrapping of high-denomination notes dissuaded car buyers.
