Martin Peters has died at the age of 76. The West Ham legend passed away in his sleep in the early hours of Saturday morning and his family have paid tribute to the Upton Park icon, who helped England win the World Cup in 1966. A statement from the Peters family read: "It is with profound sadness that we announce that Martin passed away peacefully in his sleep at 4.00am this morning. "We will be making no further comment and kindly ask that the privacy of our family is respected at this extremely difficult time." Peters is best known for his time at West Ham, the club he made his professional debut with back in 1959.
