McGuinness worked at the heart of Northern Ireland's power-sharing government following the 1998 Good Friday Agreement. Sinn Fein said McGuinness died on Monday night (Tuesday NZ time) after a short illness. "On behalf of republicans everywhere we extend our condolences to Bernie, Fiachra, Emmet, Fionnuala and Grainne, grandchildren and the extended McGuinness family."
