The characters in the play come from specific worlds, mostly recognisable to the kind of audience that often ends up watching the play. They do ridiculous things, like all of us. It just so happens that the ridiculous things they do have a bit to do with their relationship with men and women. These ridiculous things are most definitely gendered. It made for a great day out on the street, and that’s sometimes as good as it gets, isn’t it?
