The total number of marriages across Egypt increased to 928,800 contracts in 2019 compared to 887,300 in 2018, the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS) said, an increase of 4.6 percent. Urban areas saw 384,500 marriage contracts in 2019, 41.5 percent of the total, while rural areas saw 543,000 marriages at 58.5 percent of the total. The 20 and 25 year age group saw the most marriages, with 335,600 contracts accounting for 36.2 percent of the total. The lowest marriage rates came from the 65 years and over age group, with 111,900 marriages accounting for 0.1 percent of the total. According to the CAPMAS report the highest marriage rates in 2019 were also among educated people with an intermediate degree, with 361,600 marriages accounting for 39 percent of the total.
