MARLBOROUGH — Police say an unidentified man tried to burglarize a Maple Street gas station early last Saturday, then stole money meant for a charity from a nearby fast food restaurant. Sometime early on Saturday morning, the man went to the Gulf Gas Station, 233 Maple St., which was closed, and tried to pry its door open, Detective Scott DeCiero said Monday. When his efforts failed, the man went into the bathroom, which can be accessed from outdoors, and tried to get into the store portion of the gas station through the ceiling, but failed in that attempt as well, DeCiero said. “Right after, it appears he went over to the nearby McDonald’s,” said DeCiero of the burger chain's 250 Maple St. site. Police say the suspect is a white man with a thick, dark beard.
