Market Now: Private bank stocks rise; Karnataka Bank jumps 5%


NEW DELHI: Private bank stocks Karnataka Bank (up 5 per cent), South Indian Bank (up 2.63 per cent) and Federal Bank (up 1.69 per cent) were trading up in morning trade on Tuesday, keeping the sectoral index in the green.Shares of Axis Bank (up 1.41 per cent), ICICI Bank (up 1.36 per cent), IDFC Bank (up 1.21 per cent), YES Bank (up 1.08 per cent), Kotak Mahindra Bank (up 0.42 per cent), HDFC Bank (up 0.32 per cent) and IndusInd Bank (up 0.22 per cent) were also trading with gains.The Nifty Private Bank index was trading 0.81 per cent up at 14,140 around 10 am (IST).Equity benchmarks registered a negative opening but moved up a little on buying in bank and financial stocks.The NSE Nifty50 index was up 20 points at 10,442, while the BSE Sensex was up 54 points at 33,972.Among the 50 stocks in the Nifty index, 35 were trading in the green, while 15 were in the red.HPCL, BPCL, State Bank of India, Wipro and Bharti Infratel were among the top gainers in the Nifty50 index, while TCS, Coal India, NTPC, Hindalco and ONGC were among the top losers.
